“No, here, you go like this.”

It wasn’t Maddie Goya went to get after his shower to show him how to use the “toothbrush” and “paste.”

It was Logan.

For one, Goya was embarrassed about his ignorance. For two, he wasn’t ready to go to Maddie yet.

He knew, as well as she probably knew, that if he chose to go to her room tonight, he wouldn’t leave until the morning.

Perhaps he’d never leave. Or never want to.

And Goya wasn’t sure he was ready to take that leap. To give himself forever to the little manul, who didn’t even know the truth about him.

His heart hammered anxiously against his ribs at the very thought.

“That’s it,” Logan encouraged. “First the bottom, all the way in the back, then the top, then together and up and down, then brush out your tongue like so.”

Goya followed Logan’s teeth-brushing movements, watching him intently in the mirror, as the two males stood side by side with white towels wrapped around their hips. Logan’s towel was wrapped around his waist twice and reached to his ankles, while Goya’s barely covered his thighs.

“Now take a sip of water and rinse out your mouth. Gurgle and spit.”

Goya did as instructed, catching on quickly.

“Perfect! Tomorrow, I’ll teach you how to floss. I hate flossing, but I won’t mind doing it with you.”

Tomorrow.

The cub was already counting on Goya staying in this house on a regular basis. He was getting attached.

It wouldn’t be the first time. Goya knew he had this effect on youngsters, or even grown males who were looking for someone to follow. He had a natural authority and power they recognized. They knew instinctively that he’d protect the small and the weak. Not so much because he was a royal Beast, though that was part of his role in the universe. But because of him.

It was the male Goya chose to be.

“Do you think I’d be as tall as you are, one day?” Logan asked, comparing their reflections in the wall-length mirror.

A giant tiger next to a scrawny kitten.

“Do you think I’d have those muscles too?”

The boy flexed his twig-like arms, trying to make them bulge the way Goya’s biceps did whenever he moved.

Goya wouldn’t have answered even if he could speak.

No, the boy would never grow as tall or be as broad. It wasn’t the way he was made, given the physiques of his parents. But even if he were descended from Vikings, strapping and tall, he would still be human.

Goya was a Beast.

Even in his humanoid form, Goya was many times more powerful than any human male could ever hope to be.

Instead of answering one way or the other, Goya made some self-explanatory gestures.

Logan nodded.

“Yeah, I know. I gotta eat more to grow more.”

He turned to face Goya directly, no longer looking at their reflections.

“You like my mom, don’t you?” the boy asked abruptly.

Slowly, holding Logan’s serious gaze, Goya inclined his head.

“I can tell she likes you too. She smiles all the time when she’s around you.
